CIFHA Events

D.P.I. Supports Local Fishing Exhibition

In November 2008 CIFHA was successful in gaining sponsorship from the department of Primary Industry to enable them to participate at the Port Welshpool Sea Days Festival.

The Festival was a great success and the sponsorship money from the Dept. of Primary Industry allowed us to:

• Create a exhibition from Diaries at the Museum... these diaries are now available for the Museum to display and they will be able to preserve the original diaries.
• Presentations of Corner Inlet environment and the anecdotal mapping project by Bob MacDonald... these presentations were well attended with interactive question and answer sessions.
• We also provided a fish B.B.Q. and examples of fish filleting.
• We were also able to contribute to the cost of "The Connies" to be present at the Festival.
• We also covered the cost of Aussie Whitley (founder of Whitley Boats) in presenting his model boats to the public. Aussie spoke during the 3 days about the boats and their original use.

An excellent result and CIFHA appreciate the support of the D.P.I. in this venture. It was great to see the local fisheries present and many of the public enjoyed looking over their boats. Making the public aware of the Inlet and the people who work in it can have a great impact.

Corner Inlet has often been referred to as "The Jewel in the Crown" of Fisheries and helping to see that professional fishermen care about their environment through their involvement with the mapping project and events such as Sea Days is invaluable.

CIFHA hopes the department will continue to be involved with this event next year as we have some ideas already that would promote the Fishing Industry well.
